1925年，在瑞士日内瓦召开的关于儿童福利的国际会议上提出将6月1日设为“国际儿童节”。至于为什么是6月1日这个日子并没有一个准确的答案。一种说法认为是由于1925年，位于美国旧金山的中国总领事将一群中国孤儿召集在一起庆祝端午节，而当天正好是6月1日。

UniversalChildren'sDaytakesplaceonNovember20annually.FirstproclaimedbytheUnitedNationsGeneralAssemblyin1954,itwasestablishedtoencourageallcountriestoinstituteaday,firstlytopromotemutualexchangeandunderstandingamongchildrenandsecondlytoinitiateactiontobenefitandpromotethewelfareoftheworld'schildren.UniversalChildren'sDayisprecededbyInternationalMen'sDayonNovember19creatinga48hourcelebrationofmenandchildrenrespectivelyduringwhichtimethepositiverolesmenplayinchildren'slivesarerecognized.
